No, Corporate Express flew for JI and then flew BNA-RDU and BNA-ATL in their own IATA code. I think it was Flagship that flew for Eagle out of BNA. Corporate Express used ATL as a way to get the planes back and forth between their BNA HDQ and RDU hub.

I think that's right, though 3C did some p2p Junkstream flying out of BNA long after the hub closed. They flew BNA-ATL up until 3-4 years ago (that was propped up by a fat corporate contract for someone, maybe BellSouth) and also BNA-TRI in the same time frame. Those flights had AA* codes, as did the BNA-STL runs (now flown by MQ/AX/CHQ).

If you went back even farther, you might be surprised to see how many mainline flights were jumping out of AA's BNA. I remember flying several times on one of 3 72S's per day from CVG-BNA when the hub opened, and always getting mainline wherever I went from there - BHM, ATL, MOB, MSY. If you ask me, once the Eaglets (mostly a bunch of J31's) started replacing all of that mainline capacity, the hub began it's decline. It was a GREAT little hub!

I remember AA still having a hub there in March 1995. I used to pass through Nashville on the way down to Spring Break in Panama City on way down from Michigan - always would stop for a while at BNA. I never saw anything bigger than a 727 at BNA, mainly MD-80s and ATR-42, 72, Jetstream 31 and Saab 340s. I thought I recalled AA still at BNA in March 1996, but I could be wrong. Definitely by 1997, it was Southwest that was really big there and barely anything from AA.

And in the mid-1990s heyday, didn't AA operate nonstop service between Nashville and London?
I spent a couple of years in Nashville at the very end of the 1990s - by that time AA had already mostly de-hubbed and - as others mentioned above - Southwest's takeover was very tangible and set much of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, that probably won't change; the socio-economics and volumes just aren't there in the Nashville area for a huge mainline presence without the artificial inflation of hub operations. And although the city is a tourist magnet, it's mostly domestic tourism. There is growth in the region, but it mostly comes from surrounding regions. So thus, probably no return of intercontinental service anytime soon.
Nonetheless, Nashville should be pretty ok with the air service it receives currently and - contrary to what some are saying - isn't underserved relative to demand.
Now, if only public transit service to the airport would be better (only the MTA 15 line running hourly back in the day I lived in the area, and I doubt that's changed). Not to mention sidewalks on surrounding roads - but that might be too much to ask for in the South!

I remember when this used to be a mainline flight...IIRC, Super 80 service, perhaps 727 though. That was the late 80's though when Delta and Eastern also had 727 service from CHA-ATL!
